- The city, in partnership with Venture Richmond, will host a ribbon cutting for a new parklet in Jackson Ward tomorrow at 2 p.m. The space is part of a project at the intersection of Brook Rd. + W. Marshall St. that included a pedestrian plaza and new street mural. Read our story on the mural here.

- The owner of the building that houses Ironclad Coffee Roasters in Shockoe Bottom has purchased land adjacent to the shop. Ironclad’s owner, Ryan O’Rourke, told Richmond BizSense about his plans for the parcel, which will have seating for customers + may host outdoor concerts in the future. ☕️ (Richmond BizSense)

- Wouldn’t it be nice to see The Beach Boys live in concert? The Rock n’ Roll Hall of Famers are coming to Dominion Energy Center on February 1. Tickets go on sale this Friday at 10 a.m. and start at $55. Pro tip: Energy Center newsletter subscribers get access to ticket presales. 🏖
Holiday
- The Dominion Energy Christmas Parade will return on Sat., Dec. 4. Various floats, balloons, marching bands, and Legendary Santa will join the festive march. The parade down Broad Street starts at the Science Museum at 10 a.m. and finishes at 7th Street near the Richmond Coliseum. 🎄
Sports
- The UR football team will face William & Mary in the Capital Cup game this Saturday at 3:30 p.m. in Williamsburg. The Spiders are coming off a three-game winning streak and are 5-5 overall. Fans can watch the game on FloFootball or listen by tuning into ESPN 106.1 FM. 🏈

- SCRAP Creative Reuse is looking for coloring pages to be featured in their end of the year fundraiser. Submissions must be 8.5x11 paper size + black and white. Participants can submit their pages at Scrap’s Northside shop or through email by Wed., Nov. 24.
Pets
- Richmond Animal Care and Control is searching for volunteers to take in animals over Thanksgiving. Potential foster families should not have any other pets + need to plan on being home for the holidays. If you’re interested, send them an email. 🐶
Cause
- The artists at Black Rabbit Tattoo are hosting a Toys for Tats event to support the local nonprofit FRIENDS. On December 11, bring a new, unwrapped toy — worth $20 or more, please — to the shop and get a free tattoo from a pre-drawn flash sheet. 🎁

- South University, Richmond is starting a new program to support the mental health of the city’s first responders. Representatives from the university’s Clinical Mental Health Counseling program will begin bi-monthly visits with Richmond Ambulance Authority staff in order to discuss mental health and well-being.
Coronavirus
- VCU researchers are attempting to engineer a mask that captures + kills microbes. Dr. Wei-Ning Wang, Dr. Ping Xu, and doctoral student Zan Zhu are leading the study to develop the three-layer mask, which works by using an outer layer of electrospun nanofibers to eliminate virus cells. 🐏 (VCU News)

- Fall may have officially begun in September — but Richmond’s trees didn’t get the message. NBC12 did an investigation into why the leaves have been changing color later in the season. According to UR professor Stephanie Spera, the warmer-than-average October didn’t give trees the cue to stop photosynthesizing. 🍂 (NBC12)

We asked about what Hollywood stars you’ve seen in Richmond and we realized our readers are pretty much famous at this point. Reader Michele told us she was an extra in “Dopesick” and met Mare Winningham at the VMFA during the shoot.
Reader Monique M. saw Meg Ryan near the Capitol, who directed + starred in the World War II film “Ithaca” in 2014. Monique added that Ewan McGregor was at The Lily Pad around Halloween for the filming of “Raymond and Ray.”
And for a quick music mention, reader Gabby R. saw Bruce Springsteen at Mamma Zu about 10 years ago. Talk about the glory days.
