Fall sports registration is now open for several sports leagues.
We’ve compiled a few across Richmond now accepting new and returning players, for a variety of ages + locations.
Richmond Parks + Recreation
Cheerleading

Ages: 4-14
Locations: Pine Camp, Broad Rock Sports, Blackwell Comm. Center
Price: $25 for an individual player
YMCA of Greater Richmond Leagues
Co-Ed Basketball
Ages: 3-8
Locations: Swift Creek Family YMCA
Price: Facility member pays $61, Non-facility member pays $96
Pro Tip: The Y also offers basketball training + conditioning camps for kids up to 13-years-old.
Flag Football
Ages: 5-13
Locations: Shady Grove, Northside, Tuckahoe
Prices: $48-$118 (depending on membership/age)
Pro Tip: Online registration for these teams ends tomorrow.
Volleyball

Pro Tip: You can choose which division of a league in which you’d like to participate.

- Unas Bolsas sustainable boutique is opening a store in Carytown this Friday. Spanish for “some bags,” the store has already sold dozens of purses, bags + totes handmade by Mexican artisans through its online Etsy store, shipped straight from Richmond.
Festival
- Starr Hill RVA announced its hosting a four-day Fall Fest, set to run Sept. 15-19. You can expect new fall-themed beers each day, along with food trucks, video games, live music, a Pride Crawl + even a Stein Hoisting competition. Check out more of what to expect at its Fall Fest page.
Community
- The Virginia War Memorial is partnering with the Freedom Flag Foundation for a remembrance ceremony for the 20-year anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks. The event will be hosted outside the E. Bruce Heilman Amphitheater starting at 11 a.m. (NBC12)
- Rosie’s Gaming Emporium is honoring the 20th anniversary of 9/11 with a special mobile event called Tunnel to Towers. The tractor-trailer exhibit was created in 2013 as a way to make a 9/11 tribute accessible to anyone across the country. Entrance to the exhibit will be free, and it will be parked at the Rosie’s in Richmond from Oct. 20-25.

- LOVEVOLVE, a new boutique with local art, gifts, baby blankets + scarves is opening its first store today. LOVEVOLVE was started by mom + artist Sunny Stack Goode, who was inspired to creativity through the word “love” itself. The LOVEVOLVE store is located at 5007 Huguenot Rd. and will be open from 8 a.m.-7 p.m.

- Organizers say the Common Eats market is closing down for good. The online marketplace sourced its local products only from Richmond food businesses. Common Eats shared information for other local markets while thanking the community in its closing announcement.
Tech
- 2 Richmond-based musicians created a mobile app called Clipza to help other musicians, dancers, actors + even athletes practice easier. Among other features, the app allows the camera to remain on while replaying the last 30 seconds without having to restart the recording. It’s available for iOS right now for $7.99, and will soon be added to the Android app store.
State
- The Virginia Employment Commission says it has resolved 95% of its 92,000 delayed unemployment claims before the mandated deadline, which was Monday. A spokesperson for the VEC says if you still haven’t had your claim resolved, keep making the claim online once a week. You can also call 866-832-2363 for more information. (NBC12)

- The owner of Richmond’s Ruby Scoops won the grand prize onin the Ben & Jerry’s Clash of the Cones on the Food Network. Rabia Kamara won $20,000 on Monday night’s final episode. She says her inspiration comes from honoring her inner child, which sparked her passion for sweets and ice cream. Congrats Rabia! 🍦 (CBS6)

- A state law will utilize $50 million to hire more counselors + support staff as students head back to the classroom. The law requires that 3 specialized student support staff members are available per 1,000 students in order to create more meaningful relationships. (NBC12)
