The Richmond Folk Festival returns to the riverfront tomorrow and will continue through Sunday. A few weeks ago, we did a run-down of some performances we’re looking forward to — now, let’s folk-us on the logistics.
🎻 Festival hours
Friday | 6:30-10 p.m.
Saturday | 1-9:30 p.m.
Sunday | 1-6 p.m.

🎻 Health + safety
Audiences are strongly encouraged to be fully vaccinated, wear masks, and maintain social distancing practices during the festival. Volunteers will be handing out free masks throughout the weekend.
Pro tip: the festival is offering free COVID vaccinations onsite on Sat. + Sun. from 3-5 p.m. Make an appointment or walk up to the tent to get a shot.

🎻 Parking
Streets leading into the site will be closed to vehicular traffic at Canal St. The following parking lots are available downtown, at various rates.
- Shockoe Bottom, 100 Virginia St.
- Crowne Plaza, 55 E. Canal St.
- 801 E. Cary St.
- 1200 E. Byrd St.
Attendees are also encouraged to use rideshare, bike, walk, or ride the bus to the site. See more transportation information here.

🎻 Stages
The festival features 5 stages with different performance schedules.
- The Altria Stage + Richmond Times-Dispatch Virginia Folklife Stage are located off Tredegar St.
- The Community Foundation Stage is off 5th St.
- Cross the bridge to Brown’s Island to find The CoStar Group Stage and the Dominion Energy Dance Pavilion.
If you can’t make it one day but still want to listen, stream VPM Music or tune in to 107.3 FM or 93.1 FM for a live broadcast from the Altria Stage.

- The VPM + ICA Community Media Center will open on the second floor of the Institute for Contemporary Art on Fri., Nov. 5. The center will be located in the Murry DePillars Learning Lab + will house a recording studio and educational space. 🎙
Coming Soon
- VCU will open Shift Retail Lab at 1235 W. Broad St. within the next month. The space is designed to support VCU students who want to test entrepreneurial ideas + sell products. A public open house is scheduled for Wed., Nov. 10 beginning at 5 p.m. 🐏 (VCU News)
Eat
- Brewer’s Café is moving to a new location at 1012 Hull St. The old Bainbridge St. shop will close this Friday. The new location opens Oct. 15 and features a full bar + performance stage. ☕️
State
- The deadline to register to vote for the general election on Nov. 2 is Tues., Oct. 12. To register or check your status, visit the VA Department of Elections website. The deadline to request a mail-in ballot is Fri., Oct. 22. 🗳
- Governor Ralph Northam announced Community Flood Preparedness Grants for 19 projects around the commonwealth. The City of Richmond will receive $1.1 million for the McGuire and Chapel Drive Drainage Improvements Project — more on that project here — and $103,500 to address flooding issues in Manchester + Shockoe Bottom. 💸
Cause
- Richmond Restaurant Week returns starting Mon., Oct. 18. Through Oct. 31, Richmonders can dine at over 2 dozen local restaurants to support Feed More. A $5 standard donation for each order will provide up to 20 meals for a neighbor in need.
Biz
- Dominion Energy has agreed to sell Questar Pipelines — a natural gas company — to Southwest Gas Holdings in a deal valued at $1.975 billion. Dominion bought Questar in 2016 and had planned to sell it to Berkshire Hathaway until the deal was terminated in July. (Richmond Times-Dispatch)
Arts
- The Visual Arts Center Craft + Design show has moved online this year instead of being held at Main Street Station. The online show, still scheduled for Nov. 19-21, will also feature smaller in-person events around the city.
- Mending Walls is looking for artists to help at a 3-day Paint Jam at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church on Grace St. The event starts Oct. 15. Prospective artists should be at least 15 years old + complete the interest form by this Friday. 🎨
